Transitioning

How to start the journey of transitioning from Victim to Victor …

Introduction

We are all quite familiar with the saying, “1 day at a time”. This is often said in a time of hardship, overwhelm, difficulty, loss and so forth. When we say this, it’s a way of motivating someone to keep moving forward regardless of how the person is feeling. Have you ever considered that sometimes 24 hours (1 Day) might be too much to ask someone to get through?  We often see things from only our perspective and in this way we are unable to give the person the support that he or she needs to get through a challenging time or situation. In my lifetime, I have had many such experiences, and also many conversations where I was advised to simply take 1 day at a time, but at no point did anyone actually give me the tools to use in order to get through each day. We can never truly understand the magnitude of what someone is feeling and going through, unless we join them on their Journey.  This post looks at daily practices to help you to start your day. Each day of practice will allow you to start to gain control of your day, followed by your week, your month, your years and ultimately your life. The Simplicity in developing a routine, creates a positive transition in your life.

Practices to help you start your day?

Practice 1: Breathe

This might seem obvious as it is such an involuntary motion. But often we find that from the moment that we wake up, our mind is racing with the infamous to-do list. Through this, we access our first state of “being” for the day – a state of Anxiety and Overwhelm. This then sets the tone for the rest of your day.

To access a different emotion, we need to develop a different practice when waking up the moment you wake up, develop an awareness of your breathing. Simply breathe in, counting till 6 and breathe out counting till 4, do this at least 10 times. With each breathe, try to focus on the way air moves through you as well as in and out of your body. This process will bring you to a state of calm.

Practice 2: Decide what you want your day to look/feel like (Write this down)

Decide what emotion/feeling you want to carry with you throughout the day. Many of us have 9-5 jobs, so we struggle with designing our days according to our desires. If this is the case, then start to define what you want your day to feel like – You are in control of your internal compass. When you have defined this feeling, immediately focus your mindset and your heart set on the tasks and activities that will allow this feeling to be experienced and illuminated.

Practice 3: Define your “Stuck Point (Write this down)

Recognize and jot down the areas or the issues that may stop you from sticking to your day’s design. This is the People, places, tasks and things that is a trigger for your emotions. Write this down. Now focus on how these triggers can become positive or add to you achieving your daily design. Most times we become fixated on the negative aspects that our triggers bring, I’m asking you to FOCUS solely on just 1 Positive thing that your triggers could evoke. Once you have defined this, move on to the most important step, accessing the joy.

Practice 4: Learn how to access Joy, then access it.

What brings you joy today might not be the same thing that will bring you joy tomorrow, you could have multiple things that bring you joy. Tapping into joy and then carrying that with you can be a challenge. But use Practice 2, to set the tone for your day

Approach the day with a focus on you!

Decide who you would like to surround yourself with, decide which actions and tasks will illicit joy and then embark on those actions. Create a practice of being aware of the joy you are receiving and creating throughout the day. Make a mental note of what brought you Joy and remember to embrace the joy when it comes. Remember the people that added to your joy, the places and things that brought you joy, this will be the start of defining your support systemIf you have decided that you would love to become the author of your own life and move from a life of pain to a life of gain, then book a 30-minute consultation. We will take a close look at the situation that you find yourself in and provide you with tools that allow you to successfully move forward on your journey.

When I started to understand that I was not defined by all my past trauma, but rather that the trauma was just part of my journey, could I then begin to write the script I wanted for my life without pain determining my life’s path. To have gained control of a previously uncontrollable life has given me the confidence and the power to live a life by my design. A life filled with Boundless Joy.
